Write

writeHandsIn, the first interactive online magazine and community for 20-somethings, is constantly looking for writers with a fresh perspective and a unique voice.

Our editorial team expects prospective contributors to be familiar with the style and format of our site, and first time contributors should read the following in its entirety before submitting.

We offer a bright and diverse mix of articles and are interested in seeing well-written features, how-to articles, hints and tips, motivational stories, product recommendation articles, and other pieces that will help our readers learn the ins and outs of living a conscientious life.

Overall, we’re looking for writers with a spunky, captivating style who have rich firsthand knowledge about volunteerism and small lifestyle changes that can lead to big results.  While we cover a broad range of subject matter, each article must relate to the overarching theme of service and/or creating daily change in order to be considered.

Before submitting, ask yourself: Is this something that 20-somethings absolutely must read?  Am I covering this topic in a unique and compelling way?  If the answer is yes, keep going!

“Blah blah okay, now how do I actually submit my writing?”

Step 1- Join the community! Only HandsIn community members can submit writing for publication.  Exceptions are made for contributing experts in fields of interest.

Step 2- Familiarize yourself with the types of articles we’re publishing by exploring the site.

Step 3- Keep in mind: We do not accept articles that have been previously published, even if publication was on your personal website or blog. Similarly, we only accept submissions from the original author of the article.  By submitting material, you acknowledge that you are legally entitled to distribute the work and to allow it to be redistributed.  At this time, HandsIn does not pay for articles or content submissions.

Step 4- Check your spelling, punctuation, grammar and of course, your facts.  Pen a short personal bio (2-5 sentences max) to accompany your article and attach any accompanying photos (we love articles with fantastic photography!), and then submit away.  All submissions are done electronically to: bechange@handsin.org with the subject line “Writing Submission.”

Once you’ve submitted your article, be patient.  Go get some tea, relax, and forget about it for a while. As soon as possible, our editors will contact you letting you know whether your article has been accepted for publication.  Remember: all article submissions are on spec.  Please do NOT send queries or proposals.

If your article has been accepted, that also probably means it will be edited in some way.  This includes title changes and other modifications as necessary.

Once your article has been published, put that tea down, do a little dance, and tell everyone you know!  Successful articles are those that are well written and well promoted.

The end.  Well, until you begin the lovely process again and again!
