These kids, more than anyone else in the town we stayed in, were so free with their love. They wanted our attention and would do a lot to get it, including misbehavior. I learned a lot about diligence in the Salvation Army School–in order to shine in overcrowded situations, you either have to dazzle or shock. There was a good blend of both, and I was really challenged as I learned to remain composed in the midst of chaos.
